There was a banana in my fruit basket
It was yellow and firm when I bought it
Too raw to eat
So there it stayed reclining comfortably
Amongst the apples and pears
The reds and greens vanished quickly
The yellow stayed, but it was yellow no longer
Blacker and blacker it became
I didn't touch it
I didn't peel it
I didn't cut it
I didn't squash it
There it lies now in my waste basket
Black and soft
Too ripe to eat
I didn't kill it
It died all by itself
It looked just fine all firm and yellow sunshine
No, I didn't kill it
All I did was ignore it
Too raw to eat
So there it stayed reclining comfortably
Amongst the apples and pears
The reds and greens vanished quickly
The yellow stayed, but it was yellow no longer
Blacker and blacker it became
I didn't touch it
I didn't peel it
I didn't cut it
I didn't squash it
There it lies now in my waste basket
Black and soft
Too ripe to eat
I didn't kill it
It died all by itself
It looked just fine all firm and yellow sunshine
No, I didn't kill it
All I did was ignore it
